The Father I Found in My Father-in-Law
-Samiksha
For me, Dr. K. R. Saxena was never just my father-in-law. He was my Daddy. From the day I became part of this family, he made me feel completely at home. He never treated me like a daughter-in-law. He accepted me as his own daughter, and over the years, that is exactly what he became to me.
I felt his support most strongly when I was doing my M.Phil. I had an academic guide for my research, but Daddy was the one who truly guided me through the journey. He took a personal interest in what I was doing, listened when I was struggling and always seemed to know when I needed a little encouragement.
He had complete faith in me, even at times when I didn't have quite as much faith in myself. He would simply say, “You can do it, beta.” Those words stayed with me. His belief in me gave me the confidence to keep going and see my M.Phil. through.
When I look back now, I realise how much his support meant to me during that time.I felt the same love in a very different way whenever I was unwell. If I needed to see a doctor, Daddy would take me himself. He would come to the hospital with me, sit through the consultations, listen to what the doctors said and make sure I was looked after.
He never made me feel that I was dealing with things on my own. Those moments may seem small, but they are the memories that stay with me. He looked after me because he loved me, not because he was my father-in-law. By then, that distinction didn't really exist between us.
I feel very lucky that I got to have that relationship with him. Not everyone gets to find a father in a father-in-law. I did.
Daddy, thank you for believing in me, looking after me and loving me as your daughter. I will always be grateful that I got to call you Daddy.
Love you always,
Samiksha
