Memories of Collegial Warmth and Inspiring Leadership

— Dr. Dhrubash Karan

I was in close contact with Dr. Kanteshwar Raj Saxena when I was transferred to the O.U. College of Science, Saifabad, where I was retained for two years. Dr. Saxena was the Principal of the college during that period. We developed a warm and cordial relationship and often used to share our lunch.

With his support and goodwill, I established a Tea Club at the college. A picnic for the teachers was also arranged at the Nehru Zoological Park, including lunch, with the cooperation and assistance of the hostel warden. Dr. Saxena was always encouraging and supportive of such activities that promoted fellowship and a healthy atmosphere among the staff.

Dr. Saxena also entrusted me with additional responsibilities, including serving as Students' Advisor and Students' Welfare Officer. These responsibilities helped me develop and maintain cordial, affectionate and respectful relationships with both the students and the faculty.

With my free, frank and unbiased approach to students' problems, I was successful in winning their confidence. This certainly helped me conduct the Students' Union elections very smoothly. The election was particularly tense, as the President was elected by the narrowest margin of just three votes.
After I declared the results immediately following the completion of the counting, the students dispersed happily and peacefully. I received a congratulatory pat from the Principal and from all others concerned, including the Police Inspector who was stationed there. I was later told about the tension they had anticipated, with concerns that the counting and possible recounting might continue into the following day.

Similarly, I was able to make foolproof arrangements for the distribution of snacks to the students during the college's annual day function. Such responsibilities gave me opportunities to interact closely with both students and colleagues and to contribute meaningfully to the smooth functioning of the college.

All these activities and experiences remain fresh in my mind even today. They are cherished memories of my time at Saifabad College under the able, supportive and encouraging leadership of Dr. Kanteshwar Raj Saxena.
