A Father’s Love That Became My Strength
One of my most cherished memories of Baba goes back to my MBBS days at Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad, in the 1970s.
During my medical studies, there was only one copy of an important Surgery textbook available in our college library. Since the library had to take the book back after a certain period, I found it difficult to get sufficient time to study it whenever I needed it.
Baba came to know about this and asked me why I had not told him that I needed the book.
I was hesitant to tell him because it was an expensive book, and I knew that purchasing it would be an additional financial burden. But Baba immediately said, “Nothing doing. You need the book for your studies.”
Without making me feel that it was a burden, he arranged the money and personally took me in an auto to Kothari Book Stall in Hyderabad. He bought the book for me so that I could study it whenever I wanted, without having to depend on the library copy.
That simple gesture touched me deeply. I realised how much Baba valued my education and how quietly he was willing to make sacrifices for his children. Knowing that he had arranged the book with difficulty made me even more determined to work hard. I studied with renewed dedication, carrying his blessings and faith in me.
With Baba’s encouragement, blessings and constant support, I secured a Distinction in Surgery.
Looking back today, I realise that the book Baba bought for me was much more than a textbook. It was a symbol of his love, sacrifice, faith and unwavering belief in his daughter.
Baba may no longer be with us physically, but his love, blessings and faith continue to live in my heart and in every achievement of my life.
